Margot Parker visits PSI 7/8th January 2009

This year at PSI I detected a good steady pace to doing business with no panic about the world downturn and with countries preparing for a much slower growth rate.  I saw the usual high standard of well designed stands offering vast amounts of promotional products and in Hall 11 Macma the German promotional products company had a very  luxurious stand with crystal chandeliers and visitors being given rhinestone cowboy hats which incidentally could be seen all over the show. What a great touch I thought for getting noticed in a crowd. www.macma.hk

I noticed another innovative product “self luminous stickers” which certainly attract attention without the need for batteries and lasting 6/8 hours www.omniglow-europe.com . I must also just mention the continued growth in eco-friendly products, which were prominently featured at the show and rightly so as their growth rate is sure to grow.

PSI recorded the visitors as 18,654 which is down marginally from last years 19,000 visitors but never the less a great barometer for the business in promotional products for 2009. Everyone knows that business in 2009 will be tough but I detected a realistic approach by companies selling promotional products and with 903 exhibitors PSI provided a great platform to start the year off.

PSI say top of their best seller “hit list” were textiles, bags and luggage, stationary, leather products, watches and jewellery as well as electronic products. There were green products from t-shirts to biodegradable felt bags too.
.
Some of the exhibitors I talked to felt by being at the show they had positioned themselves well for the doing more international business as well as the ever growing number of visitors from the new EU countries from Europe would only enhance their companies profile.
